Hiked this one with my husband. It was a really our fourth hike of 2020, (we did Mission peak sometime in Jan, snowshoeing twice – once in Tahoe and once in Yosemite) but it did feel like we hadn't hiked in so long! We took a wrong turn at the very beginning, which ended up adding a 1.5 miles to our trip. But the views from Bald mountain were worth the detour. Overall the hike was good, I was floating in and out of my hike-meditative state, which was not really a bad thing. I noticed two Ravens having a meeting and then flying away to two different branches, perhaps reflecting on why went well in the meeting or thinking of comebacks for any insults. I saw some big black squirrels scuttling amongst the red barked trees, which had beautiful white buds – I guess they bloom in a week or two and can only imagine how much prettier the trail will then be! There is some restoration and construction work at the top, we took a break there to have a snack and try and spot Mt Team and My Diablo. The hike back down was swift, the setting sun lit the sky beautifully and also brought out the chill in the air. City lights greeted us on our way back.
