This is my kind of hike: well defined trail with steady but moderate elevation gain, spectacular views on the way up and back down … and no risk of plummeting to your death. My fourth time doing this hike and it’s still one of my all time favorites. In the past, I’ve hiked it in bright sunshine and scores of other hikers. Not the case today. Cool (4°C/39°F) and light rain at the trailhead. Turned to hail briefly at the summit. Originally planned on hiking Flatiron but woke up to rain so went with plan B. Ironically, I could see Flatiron in brilliant sunshine as I drove into Gold Canyon.
