Bill Williams closed due to fire risk; I skipped ahead of my order as I waited to hear what the alternative was, going to Sedona, where I hit Bear during the sunrise, mountain biked some trails for four hours and change, then (after enjoying Sedona Beer Company) I did Wilson for the sunset.  Then drove back to Flag to car-camp near (but not at!) O'Leary.  And this all followed three intense hiking days at the Grand Canyon, and two prior days of hiking peaks around Flag.  So, my legs were just a bit tired.

I missed the lava flow on the way up…made note of it when coming down!  Fairly gentle climb for the most part; long switchbacks for the most part.  Fire tower pretty much always in sight.  Great views of the region at the top, including Elden and Humphrey's- I think Kendrick was hidden from view.

Ranger in the fire tower saw me sitting down to take a rest, and taking my sweet time getting down to the ground, and came out to the balcony to ask me if I was alright- I regaled her with my tales of hiking the prior six days, and she congratulated me on hitting all the major “things”.  If O'Leary were earlier in my trip, I don't think I would have been so weary!  But by golly if I had done Humphrey's at the end…hoo boy!

Coming down was a piece of cake, a great end to my whirlwind week in Arizona.  Six-pack done in four days!  Well, stopping by Grand Canyon Brewery was the greater end…prickly pear wheat ale?  Yes please!  Lobster mac and cheese?  Double-yes-please!  Though it came with green onions, unbeknownst to me upon ordering…if you are like me and don't want any crunch in your mac and cheese (and/or just don't care for onions, also like me), be sure to specify no-onions, or be prepared to pick 'em out!

Happy trails!
