Hiking this peak takes a little bit of preparation than usual, at least for me, due to its geographical location. Driving is already a challenge on its own to go to Los Padres. A couple of my friends and I set out early Friday afternoon hoping to beat the traffic. We planned on staying overnight in one of the campground to start the hike first thing the following day. Since we already there, why not complete the 321 Challenge set by Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce. So we did! The hike started moderately and as always the last push to the peak was more than moderate. Saw a few hikers on Mt Pinos that also had the intent of completing Sawmill and Grouse Mountains as well. I was so glad to complete these 3 peaks this time with my friends.
