Parking is very challenging, you have to start super early. We did this hike when the climate was warming up and being unprepared for the heat was a struggle. We had plenty of snacks and water, but this is when we learned the importance of sun coverage. Icehouse Canyon is a beautiful trail. It begins with large tree coverage and a water source. Once you hit the rocky area, it becomes more technical. Our dog had more difficulty in this area. The steep incline that follows is killer. You just have to push through. Reaching the saddle is such a reward at that point. The saddle offers many trail options from this point. We hung a right and headed to Ontario Peak. As you gain elevation, there is less and less tree coverage. The last leg to the peak was brutal as we were all overheating. Once we reached the Peak, we took a much needed LONG break. This was an all day hike for us, almost 12 hours.
