Beautiful, but chilly day for a hike up the canyon to Ontario Peak. Saw a few people here and there. Late in the day saw couple of groups heading out for overnights. After the saddle, the trail was about 80% compacted snow covered with adequate traction in my trail runners. I carried micro-spikes, but they were unnecessary. The weather deteriorated in the late afternoon and rain with low visibility had moved in by the time I got back to my car at 3:30-4. I camped at Manker Flats and could see the fresh dusting of snow on all the surrounding peaks on Saturday a.m.
the hike up to Ontario is fun and pretty. I’ll be heading up to Cucamonga in a few weeks, weather permitting!
