Hiked on 5/2/21. 13.9 miles, 4,281 ft. elevation gain. Hike took 6:10. Summited Ontario Peak first, and hiked up and back down Bighorn Peak on the way back to Icehouse Saddle. If you want a parking spot on a weekend for this one, I would arrive EARLY! I got to the trailhead at 6:30 AM, and the lot was full, but luckily, I was able to find parking off the street nearby (an hour later, not sure that would’ve been the case). The hike is pretty crowded on the ~3.5 miles up to Icehouse Saddle, but the spur off to Ontario Peak was very empty—a nice change of pace—and the views really open up from there. And cool to see the distinctive tree at the top of Ontario Peak in person. From the Saddle, it’s about 2.7 miles to Ontario Peak, at a slightly less steep gradient, and then 2.1 miles from Ontario back down to Bighorn Peak, if you decide to summit that as well. Cutting Bighorn out of the hike would’ve taken 1.6 miles out of the total mileage. The trail to Bighorn is a little harder to follow, but a GPS helped me stay roughly on, and you can see where you’re heading in the end regardless. Some great views from this hike right across to Baldy, and into the LA basin from the top of Ontario, although when I hiked, clouds covered the city, which was a different type of cool view, hiking above them.
