The trail had a lot of ice and snow after the saddle, so micro spikes are needed at that point.  The weather was great all day wirh clear skies but some chilly wind through the canyon.  The waterfall was a little scary, even with micro spikes.  Parking lot was full at 9am so I had to park farther down on the street.  Even with the late start, I was able to summit and get back to my car just as it was getting dark at 5pm.  Overall this was a great hike with beautiful views at the summit.

  1. Hi Lisa! Thank you for your post. Congrats!!

You mention a waterfall, and I am totally spacing about where that is on Ontario. I’m going to probably do either Ontario or Cucamonga with a friend with a lot of technical experience this weekend, so trying to give him as much info as possible before we head out. Could you remind me where the waterfall is on this? It’s been more than a year since I did it last. Thank you!!

  2. Hi Jaclyn!

The waterfall is about 1/2 mile up from the saddle (going towards Kelly Camp). It’s not that wide, but it is frozen solid and my micro spikes barely helped. I think I took maybe 4 or 5 steps? to cross. I read on Alltrails that other people were hiking a few days before me and they mentioned going above or below the waterfall. I didn’t look for an alternate way, but next time I will! 🙂
    Enjoy the hike!
