Explored Ontario Peak with my beautiful kitty, our #3 out of #12PackofPeaksChallenge. Furnace heat wave is hitting SoCal again so I highly recommend to start the hike as early as 5AM. We started at the trail at 7AM and that was wayyyyy too late. Lesson learned, lol.
Distance: 13 miles
Time: 8 hours
Elevation gain: 4,056 ft
Quick word on the trail itself— once you get past the Kelly Camp onto the Ontario Ridge the trail gets very overgrown so it’s really easy to miss the trail and start climbing upwards, as opposed to hugging the ridge line. Several people were going off trail for that reason and then had to backtrack to find the trail again so be mindful where the overgrown trail is at. Another advice is to wear pants or you will get scratched up! It is a narrow path with overgrown trail. Enjoy the views from the top!
