We arrived at the trailhead just after sun-up on a cloudless day. Icehouse Canyon is one of my favorite local hikes, with the tree canopy, cabins and flowing creek it is just amazing. This day was no exception, starting at the trailhead we followed the well signed trail and made a steady climb up the hill until reaching the saddle and the first signs of snow. Off to the right of the trail was the sign to Ontario Peak and Kelly Camp, which was easy to spot. I remember saying we were the first to hike it that day because there were no footprints in the snow. YAY! So off we go, next stop Ontario Peak only 2.7 miles up the trail. After about a 1/4 mile we encountered 8-10″ deep snow. So if you don't have snowshoes be prepared to get a good work out. The best way I can describe this would be if you were walking on the stair stepper at the gym for 4 hours. We reached the peak and noted some fast moving clouds coming in from the west so after a short rest we headed back down the trail. As always, a good day on the trail
