We planned on starting around 4:30 am but did not start until about 5:00 am. We started out in the dark but trail is pretty easy to follow as long as you are wearing headlamps. We were approaching mile 3.5 or close to the Saddle when it started getting light. We made it to the Saddle and it was a bit windy and cold. We took a breakfast break here and then headed up towards Ontario Peak. Once we started heading up, there was a lot of hard packed snow and ice on the trail. We decided to put on our microspikes at this point. The rest of the trail continued having snow and ice. If considering this peak in the next couple of day, I recommend to bring your microspikes or risk slipping and injury. At the summit of Ontario Peak, it was not windy but definitely about 30 degrees. The sun was shining and kept us pretty warm. We spent about an hour or 1.5 hours at the top eating and taking lots of pictures. We started heading back down around 10:00 am and made it back to the car a little past 12:00 pm stopping to speak to a few friends we ran into on the trail. We finished this day's hike with a great meal at the Mount Baldy Lodge.
