As some of you know, I decided to do the “Six Pack of Peaks Challenge” this year. This year the sponsor of the challenge decided to add Ontario Peak as an option for Cucamonga Peak, but since I did Cucamonga a couple of weeks ago Ontario Peak wasn’t something that I needed to do for the challenge.
However the Troop for which I used to be Scoutmaster had a group of older scouts that wanted to backpack to and camp at Kelly Camp and then hike to Ontario Peak, so they asked me if I would go along and help lead the hike.
One of the most rewarding things as a former Scoutmaster is to come back and camp with a group of older scouts that I saw come into the troop as first year scouts that could barely backpack a mile and a half and see how they have all grown and become such great and mature young men.
We ended up having a picture perfect backpack trip.
It was like backpacking with a group of seasoned veteran backpackers.
What a great group of young men. I would go backpacking with them any time.
Our country needs more young men like these.
