I'll be honest, I was not excited to see South Sister on the list of peaks to summit for this challenge. Last September I hiked it for the first time in a meet up group. With only 2 miles left before the summit, a storm moved in, giving us zero visibility and 35 mph winds, making an already difficult hike intense and mentally challenging.
I'm so grateful we had a Monday available to hike it. We only saw roughly 30ish people the entire day. The mental and physical challenge were still there but the blue bird views (and no wind) was an incredible reward!

Weather makes a world of difference in the mountains, doesn’t it? Glad you had clear and calm skies this time.
FWIW, I always “brace myself” for South Sister. 😉
soooo true on the weather making a huge difference! It was certainly not an easier hike just because it was a beautiful day but it made a huge difference in my mood about it. 🙂
