My boyfriend and I started our overnight trip at 7:45 a.m. The first 1.5 miles was brutal. The steep switch backs were the hardest part of the hike especially with a 35 pound pack. After that it was a gradual incline all the way to High Creek Campground where we stayed at for the night. On the way up around Vivian Creek Campground, the bugs were eating us alive. We had to stop and put on bug deterrent spray. I'm active but not in the best shape. I to had to catch my breath often and was averaging one mile an hour. We got to High Creek around 1:30. I had a headache and took Tylenol to relieve my pain. We brought a bunch of Gu and Cliff bars to snack on but that wasn't satisfactory enough in between breakfast and dinner. Lesson learned for our next trip. There is little shade but there was a nice breeze at camp. The bugs were a little annoying to the point we ended up with a bunch of mosquito bites. It was a full moon, and barely had to use my head lamp. We started our hike to the summit at 7:45 the next morning with our day packs. It was cool and a little windy at the top. The weather was perfect the entire time. We arrived to the summit at 10:45 and had the whole place to our self. Hung out for a half hour then went back down to camp. We packed up our gear then headed back down. We made it back down at 6. I was sunburnt with sore feet. Rewarded myself with a cold beer and juicy burger.
