First peak of the season was prime. Wilson Mountain was wonderful, however, I was not sure which mountain was which from the bottom of the trailhead. After driving by Midgley Bridge probably 4 times, I realized that was in fact where the trailhead began. Lucky for me, it was 9am and I was the first car there so there was adequate parking. I sprayed on some sunscreen (obviously not enough as I am ridiculously sunburned) and headed up the trail, wishing my mini aussie was there to join me for the fun. The trail itself was excellent, going from shaded and strewn with red rock, to traversing alongside a mountain meadow, to a partially tree ridden plain, to what I could only describe as a jungle, and finally to a forested peak that overlooks the beautiful Sedona area. I saw plenty of beautiful flowers in full bloom, two cool little lizard guys, and a big snake at the end. We were friends, don't worry. I made it through 4 great podcasts by This American Life and Radiolab, so I will always remember this hike as where I learned how the dinosaurs really disappeared (great episode called “Dinopocalypse Redux” if you are interested). Picked up a little trash on the way back down and overall this hike was 8/10 and made it on to my favorite hikes in Sedona list. Let's be honest though, every hike I have done in Sedona has made it on the list.
