Picacho Peak is always challenging for a short hike. It has quite a bit of steep vertical, large step ups, some scramble, and of course sections requiring the use of cables to navigate. It was a cool day and we started after some rain had come through. Due to volume of people hiking this trail there was a park ranger checking people starting the hike to make sure you understood what you were getting into, had enough water, and had a mask to wear in crowded areas of the hike. I have done this trail many times but this was the first time I had a ranger tell me they were at times limiting how many people were on the trail due to safety concerns. We started at 0830 and it was already pretty heavily trafficked. Suggest planning to be patient with some choke points around the cables and do recommend gloves as well. Everyone we encountered was friendly and patient. Had a great hike and enjoyed a good view from the top. I always personally view the Dairy Queen across the highway longingly from the top. Enjoy
