Piestewa is definitely a heart-pounding climb as proven by the number of trail runners hoofing it to the top! It is a very rocky but beautifully built trail in the heart of Phoenix. Incredible to see such trails and hiking in an urban area.
My pitfall was hiking this trail a day after climbing up Siphon Draw Trail to Flatiron! My legs were still in recovery mode when I climbed Piestewa! Having hiked into the Grand Canyon recently, I mistakenly thought I would have no problem doing these back to back.
The top of Piestewa is a very jagged peak with plenty of natural chairs to sit and view the distant mountain ranges beyond. I met many wonderful people on this busy trail, including and 86-year old man who had hiked this peak daily for 46 years.
