I finally finished the 6 Pack + 2. I was feeling like a slacker, because so many people have finished, so I went up and tagged Cucamonga and Etiwanda. I thought about Big Horn and Ontario too, but then I came to my senses and thought better of it. In my defense, I have done Baldy 3x since New Year, Wilson, Baden-Powell, and San Jacinto 2x. Now to do them 10 more times for my Case of Peaks.
It was a great day, as it usually is on this trail. I went up by myself and planned to hit Etiwanda first, so I bypassed the summit and headed south to Etiwanda. Of course I didn't really research Etiwanda and was concerned about missing the turnoff to the summit and heading down to Joe Ely. I came upon a pole and a use trail and followed that up, but halfway I looked back and realized that Etiwanda was the peak further down the trail and across a saddle. I went up to Cucamonga and ran into a group from 3H and they kindly let me tag along to Etiwanda.
I thought Etiwanda was just around the corner and with no downhill, but I was wrong. We dropped a couple hundred feet and then went up a steep trail to the rocky and narrow summit. Live and learn. I've been to Cucamonga more times than I can recall, but today was my first time to Etiwanda. I'll be back.
It was a beautiful day and an awesome hike. A great way to finish the 6 Pack + 2.

  1. Hike on @mr-jcharvey! You are an inspiration for your consistency. I have no doubt you’ll pickup a case of peaks before the Finisher’s Party in October. 😉
