This being my 2nd peak, I’d like to think I’ve learned a few things .. trial and error. Firstly I made ABSOLUTELY no other plans, so I was able to enjoy the outdoors more. Secondly, I added inserts to my shoes for the heel issues I had last time.
Overall, I think I kept a pretty good pace so even my hat ended up with sweat stains (which have come off in the washing process). I labeled this hike Roasty Toasty Daisy because I am soo sun burnt from YESTERDAY’S hike to Dry Lake that I wore a long sleeve shirt and I felt soo awkward. I definitely didn’t want to burn anymore, but the unshaded parts of the trail felt awful for me. I know I am being a bit much, but I am very accustomed to sleeveless tops.
The trail itself was well marked, albeit I did end up with a few cuts on my legs that I only noticed after the fact. The views from the peak are breathtaking. I didn’t see much in the way of wildlife this time, but I am sure I will have more opportunities. I couldn’t believe how many people we came across, I knew that Ice House Canyon Trail was popular, I didn’t realize how much of the foot traffic went to Cucamonga Peak.
I definitely packed enough food and water for this adventure 🙂 However seeing as the elevation for these peaks is getting higher and higher, I am going to pack electrolyte tablets for the next trip! I felt good overall, most of my now discomfort being soreness. I am sure that will pass and I can’t wait to log another peak!!
