I was so glad to hear the San B reopened. The last time I was on top of it was in 2019. The scar from the El Dorado fire surely was devastating. I didn't realize the magnitude of its injury & damage to the mountain & the trail.
The plan was to start early around 6 but…. I'm blaming my phone alarm :-). Anyway, after about 2 hrs of driving I arrived at the parking lot around 7 and it was already packed. Luckily, a truck left when I was making a u-turn.
Encountered snow on the trail at mile 4.5 but didn't use trekking pole and micro spikes until mile 6. From there, the trail was kind of hit or miss because of snow-packed trail. So, I ended up making my own path straight up to the peak but going down I had to follow others' track. At this point, I did a lot of post holing with knee-deep snow. Mostly sunny. Mild wind picked up by mile 4 which made the hike a pleasant one.
Extra pair of socks and ankle gaiter would be helpful if one plans to hike around this time.

Great photos, Dennis. Thanks for sharing the update on San Bernardino. That has been my wife’s favorite hike in the SoCal challenge.
Thanks Jeff.
Nice!! What time did you reach the summit?
Made it to the top around noon.
This is great, Dennis, helpful in planning my excursion up there, thank you! Great pics, thanks for sharing!
