Had a great trip up to San G on Friday. Weather was excellent which was nice for change since I seem to have bad weather luck this year. Met and shared miles with lots of friendly hikers. Water was steady all the way up to High Creek. Started the trail around 7 am, setup camp at high creek, and completed the summit Friday afternoon. Overall the trail from Vivian Creek was long and steep but not difficult for me until 10k feet.  The third set off switchbacks and initial approach is a very steep section. Since I traveled from sea level, my head was beating like a drum. After the steep section, the last little bit of trail is flat and sandy. At the summit, I met even more hikers who had taken different routes. Something really cool about this hike was hearing about the different experiences to reach the same summit. After descending, I camped overnight and finished the rest Saturday morning. Only issue I had camping was with my sleeping pad. I tried the Thermarest NeoAir Xlite regular to save weight and realized it is too narrow for me. 20” wide isn’t enough to fully support my shoulders and my elbows would fall off on either side. This caused me to wake up many times throughout the night with pain and numbness in my elbows. I returned the pad to REI today and I will be sticking with my Nemo Tensor wide which is much more comfortable. Overall a great hike and great people on the trail. I did find some food trash at the campground which I ended up storing in my bear can and packing out.
