Not my favorite hike. The drive up is about 3 miles of “paved” road with potholes to get to 4miles of dirt road with sharp rocks. Got up to trailhead by 5:30 to beat the heat, 4x4s and bugs. The turn off to the single track trail is not well marked and I missed it in the dark so I ended up taking the fire road to the top. There are great views from the top especially at sunrise when I got there. The only downside is that you are surrounded by cell towers. I couldn’t find a sign for the picture. The bugs awoke with the dawn and were swarming and relentless. Normally if I hike quickly I can outpace them, but they were determined, so out came the head net. I took the single track down which has more shade , but unfortunately it is overgrown so I had to hike in a crouch half the time and the branches kept trying to snatch the bug net off my head. Also the trail is covered in fist size rocks that want roll out from underneath you or trip you up. Made it back to the car in a little under 2-1/2 hours. I got about a mile down the dirt road when one of the sharp rocks punctured the sidewall of my tire. If you decide to do this hike make sure your jack and tire iron are in your car. There’s no aaa or cell service up there and I was surprised that 7 out of the 8 people, including myself, didn’t have them.
