Peak #11/12 for me. Santiago is my least favorite of them all. Important to note that the Holy Jim Trail is still very closed, and parking at trailhead would be very risky(might get a ticket) . We hiked the peak from Maple Springs. After the first Parking area and “trailhead”, we drove 4 miles up on a single car, paved road, and then another 4 miles up on a dirt road. We started our hike after this, making for a 10 mile out and back, elevation gain of 1,400’ on a dirt road shared with mountain bikers and off road 4X4 vehicles. Everyone was very cautious and respectful, but the dust was tough. The trail is 100% exposed, so very hot under the direct sun. On a positive note, We enjoyed the views of all the other big peaks in the area!
