Drove in through the Maple Springs gate, 7+ miles to 4-Corners parking. Shared the road with a few other vehicles but no one else at the parking area. Hiked the single-track options with very little time on the road. Stopped at Modjeska Peak first and continued on to Santiago Peak. No other hikers. A few workers on Santiago Peak. Cool breeze for most of day. Great views of cloud-covered lowlands and distant snowcapped mountains. Singletracks were somewhat slippery with loose rock but much preferred over the dusty truck road. Paused to allow one rattlesnake to cross the road as we were leaving Santiago Peak. Flies were a nuisance solved by bug net or quality repellant.
