The hike was great.  We had a cool start early in the morning and we had marine layer for a view.  We started on fire/access road and tucked into the single track at the saddle.  The single track was not too overgrown at all but it did get much steaper than the road.  We did not get too many cars however there were some, mostly very courteous to not go too fast past us or kick up much dust.  The top was beautiful and we found the USGS marker but no sign to hold up.  The marker was by a rocky outcropping at the very top by a tower/building.  Careful, that is where we noticed a Red Diamond Rattler crawling away from where we were sitting and having a snack.  It never made a sound!

The views were amazing but the cloud over kept us from seeing the OC side however it also kept us cooler because I can see how this route down on the fireroad would be difficult in hotter weather.  It is all exposed with very little shade.  I had heard the bugs were an issue and we got some but not so many where I would say it was more than normal.

My son is 13 and did this hike with me.  He did great but the sun exposure probably cooked him a bit so plan accordingly.  Bring snack and LOTS of water.
