We signed up for the 321 Hiking Challenge. 321 Challenge – Mountain Communities Chamber of Commerce, CA (mymountainchamber.com)

We left from Nordic Base Camp and hiked to Mt Pinos, Sawmill and Grouse peaks on what is either a 10, 11 or 12 mile hike depending on which app you believe. Conditions were perfect with layers. Started in the 40's with 15 mph winds at the summits to high 50's on the way back. Areas of snow with some post-holing in spots. Poles with trail crampons were necessary. My feet got pretty wet so maybe some boot waders next time? As far as challenges go, this one is easy to moderate with a couple decent hills to climb. The altitude and distance and areas of snow pack were the only challenges. Pretty cool to bag 3 peaks in the 8500 ft range in one hike.

  1. Thank you for the beautiful signs! When we were up on Sawmill, that sign was missing. I did a little trekking down the north side of the hill assuming the wind got it and found it. Stacked some rocks on it before we left.
