Easily one of my favourite hikes in SoCal and especially the Angeles National Forest. This hike has a bit for everyone and hence why it is so popular. You really need to get to the trailhead early, we arrived at 0630 and the carpark was relatively empty. The switchbacks are a genuine highlight on this hike and the ever growing view of the Mojave Desert to the north is spectacular especially before the heat haze and wind pick up.

It was my third time to the summit and honestly I won't get sick of doing it. There was a bit of snow, but nothing you can't handle and the most you'd need is a pole if you were really unsure on your feet. I'd imagine there will be some snow there for the next few weeks. It is a shame though, because of the snow people have taken it upon themselves to cut new trails into the mountain. It really does take away from the joy of the switchbacks and the scenery.

It was a little chilly at the summit, but the views of LA (best seen when you can't see it – covered in cloud) were a great pay-off. Unfortunately the sign is missing at the top, hopefully someone replaces it soon. I can see why people rate this as hard, but for 9,406ft if you hit a steady pace this is easily manageable for most fitness levels.

I use to be a Scout and our motto was always “Be Prepared”, but even more so “dyb, dyb, dyb. dob, dob, dob” means ‘do your best'. This is what captures this Six Pack of Peaks Challenge. Being at home in the mountains and listening to nature (only nature – no boom boxes) is zen for me. I'm just glad I can enjoy the experience with friends.

It has me wondering now if I try and do all the peaks on this years challenge  or not. Baden-Powell is easily a favourite of mine. Can't wait to come back and do it again as I continue my journey to Mount Whitney in September.
