It was my first time hiking to High Point and I loved this trail!  Ditto what everyone says about it- the first 2 miles are on a steep, rocky, narrow, exposed trail.  It's tough and slow.  After that you hit a truck trail that's much less steep and it's a moderate hike.  I started at 5:40 AM and wished I'd started more like 5:00.  The first part of the hike is on the east side of the mountain and you're fully exposed to the sun the second it comes up.  It was blazing hot from the moment I started.  Strangely, the temperature dropped as soon as I hit the truck trail.  It was noticeably cooler with a good breeze.  Bugs were non-existent until the last mile and then they were terrible.  I wished I'd had a bug net for my face!  I've seen time estimates all over the place for this one.  I took a total of 6.5 hours (5 hours 45 mins moving time with a 45 minute break at the top).  I was the only one on the trail the entire time.
