This was my second hike of the year and second hike of this challenge, being San Bernardino Peak! Boy, was this was much tougher than Mt. Wilson. Starting at 6k elevation, I was not expecting it to be that rough. Me and my friend began running the trail for the first 1-2 miles and we were gassed, with HRs up to 165-180 and requiring us to walk for various parts to acclimate to the elevation. Once we felt better, we would walk for .25 miles and then run .25 miles. We ran from miles 3.5 to mile 5 ish and then decide to speed walk up the rest to conserve energy. Body acclimated much faster than expected. Once we reached the top, which was my first time having a plaque/board at the top to take a photo, we decided to recover for 10 minutes or so and then run down the mountain to finish faster. We got to the top with a time of 2 hours and 21 minutes and then finished the hike at 3 hours and 44 minutes, so only 1 hour and 23 minutes down more or less. Body felt really good after acclimating and now looking forward to Gorgonio this coming weekend. Stay tuned! Also, only brought 14 oz of water and one gel pouch, felt great still.
