Snowfields to cross – could be difficult

Started the day off trying to climb Mount Eddy, but too much snow, too many clouds and not enough focus, so I turned back about half way (plus the almost three miles along the road because of snow there too!)

It was early enough, so I headed over to Black Butte.  It is not an easy hike and it can be pretty scary at the top, especially with the winds blowing, but the views were absolutely amazing!  There was one large snow patch that is very steep, so the safer option was just to scramble on the boulders above it.  Lots of loose rock the entire way, so watch your footing.

Keep in mind, he roads are old fire and logging roads, so they are not maintained and can be very brutal. Just to add to the fun, if you’re using Google for directions, it will take you through the absolute worst ones!  Definitely take a car with some clearance.
