This was our second attempt. Two weeks ago (01/03/2021), knee-deep snow near the top kept us from making it to the summit. This time the first two miles of the trail was clear with only patches of icy sheets and packed snow. Thick snow still covered the trail from the Lamel Spring junction and as the switchbacks gained elevation. However, there was a clear snow-packed single-track path that we were able to follow until the ridge section of the trail. From the ridge to the summit there was barely any snow. I would recommend using microspikes because it's icy and slippery on the steep sections of the trail. Trekking poles would also help especially coming down. It was a clear day with no winds and the 360-degree views from the summit make the four-mile hike in the snow all worth it. One of my favorite hikes and I would definitely recommend that you include Mt Baden-Powell in your #sixpackofpeaks.
