We started at 8am this very cold morning at 40 degrees F. Thankfully, we had just the minimum amount of layering; however, we wish we would have remembered our gloves and neck gaiters to add warmth to our hands, face and ears.
Once we started the ascent however, we warmed up. The switchbacks were forgiving and the views at the peak and the trees along the way were incredible; we were above the clouds and the sun was amazing. The Wally Waldron tree and the Mt. B-P saddle is amazing.
My daughter took a power siesta at the top, while I enjoyed a nice cold hoppy beverage.
Great to see other summiteers enjoying the peak with laughter, good music and some were dancing.
The foot traffic was slight throughout, but consistent as this a popular trail. The wind was biting cold at times, but we managed to find plenty of sun outside of the shade. 2 liters of water per person seemed to be plenty. Our trekking poles came in hand as usual.
Afterwards, we stopped in Wrightwood for a quick lunch. So far, has been my favorite hike/peak to date.
