I joined a Meetup Group (there were 13 People in total) to do Ontario Peak. We started at 7:30 a.m. I was easy to Icehouse Saddle in 2 hours. But after the Saddle, the trail began to be covered by snow, and some of us did not take Poles and Microspikes. Our group leader, Ian, decided to turn back to Timber with teams after the vote for safety reasons; he was a great leader.
My friend and I chose to continue the challenge. We felt safe with everything prepared, and we also had friends who started at 6 a.m. ahead of us.
It is tough for me to do snow hikes because I have never done them before. Around 80% of the route from the Saddle to the peak was covered by snow. We followed the footprints of the earlier group and finally arrived at the peak at 12:30. And we meet our friends at the Peak! I felt great and took a picture with a broken sign!
After a 30-minute break at the peak and another 30 minutes at a camping ground before Saddle, we returned to the parking lot around 4:40, totaling around 8 hours.
It is a challenge, though, and 2L water was done after the Saddle on the return. I really enjoyed the day and I felt so proud to finish the Peak.
