Hike # 3 and peak # 1 of the Six Pack of Peaks 2019 Challange: Mt. Wilson via Sturtevant and Winter Creek Trail Loop. @dilloninaction and I have done this hike last summer, but with all the water and snow we have had lately, completely transforms this hike into something else. Almost felt like you weren't in southern California anymore. Most of the trail parallels the streams with multiple man made and natural water falls. With the amount of water in the streams, it made some of the many water crossings a little tricky. We took a quick break at Sturtevant Falls before heading up the mountain passing Sturtevant Camp. Just pass the camp, we started running into a couple patches of light snow. The last 2.5 – 3 miles to the peak, the trail was completely covered in snow. Got to try out my micro spikes for the first time, made all the difference. Once at the top, we had lunch and trying to catch some views when the clouds broke up a few seconds here and there. The way down was a bit slippery without micro spikes, as Dillon almost found out the hard way, haha. There was also many land/rock slides and fallen trees on the trail down. This one was a little challanging, with being the first big hike in the last few months and with the snow, but we completed about 30 minutes slower than what we had done last summer. This was my first snow hike and I am definitely going to do it again. 14.3 miles with 4,491′ of elevation gain in a total time of 08:01:45. 02-09-2019 #sixpackofpeaks
