I've hiked this trail system a million times, even summited Sitton peak once before. What made this hike different? I was solo. Sure, I hike solo often, but never a peak hike. I took some extra precautions-brought more than enough water than I may have needed, and brought a paper map, even though I knew these trails. Off I go.

I overslept and didn't start until 7:30am-not the worst thing in the world, but it does get hot out here. A benefit-a few people started before me and rid the trail of the usual spider webs I run into on the way up. The weather was chilly and a little overcast. The bugs were horrendous, as always predicted here at this time of year. My best friend was the head net I wore for the hike. A good start. I got to 4 corners in an hour, which is a record time for me! I made it a point to time myself on this hike, as i am usually self conscious about my speed.

The blue skies pushed through and there was a constant breeze. This proved to be the perfect day weather wise for this hike. It was too warm by the time I began trudged the Sitton trail. That was for later. As i began to climb the final stretch, I noticed that it wasn't as strenuous as last year. My strength and stamina has been growing in me. I was set to summit within 2 hours and change.

And then…I slipped on the soft unpacked dirt. I stepped again to get hold and slipped more I began to arrest myself with my hiking poles and down I went. I ate it, face first in the dirt. Lucky no one saw me! I wasnt injured, I only suffered a little road rash and scratches. I got up and off I went again.

In spite of my little mishap, I made it to the top! I was alone on the summit for about 10 minutes until someone else joined me. The trail on the most part was really quiet. I say, a perfect day for a hike.
