Seven women from the Bay Area Women’s Mid-week Hiking Group set out on an unforgettable 19-mile trek with 3,845 feet of elevation gain from Stinson Beach to Mt. Tamalpais East Peak. We began our ascent via the lush and shaded Steep Ravine Trail, reaching Bootjack Campground, where we joined the Matt Davis Trail, then continued on Hoo-Koo-E-Koo Trail, Hogback Road, and Railroad Grade Fire Road. The final push to the summit via Fern Creek Trail was steep but rewarding, made easier by the cool breezes and panoramic views.

After lunch and summit photos, we descended via the paved road to reconnect with Railroad Grade Fire Road, heading toward West Point Inn. From there, we explored the scenic Rock Spring Trail for the first time—a ridge trail with stunning San Francisco skyline views. At the Memorial Theater, we saw Youth Conservation Corps workers improving the Easy Grade Trail, so we detoured onto the Bootjack Trail, enjoying its gentle switchbacks back to Bootjack Campground.

Continuing on Alpine Road to Pantoll, we avoided our usual descent (Matt Davis) and instead took the Old Mine Trail to the Dipsea Trail. Though the Dipsea’s relentless steps tested our tired legs, we were grateful to be descending. As we returned to Stinson Beach, the setting sun over the Pacific rewarded our efforts. We capped the day with a well-earned celebratory dinner at Parkside. A really incredible day!
