This was a great little hike, I really enjoyed the winding trail along the mountainside, maybe not a fave of those who are afraid of heights or easily get vertigo, but looking a foot or two off the side and seeing nothing but ‘down' was pretty cool. Trail conditions were good and I cruised right along, for the most part, the elevation gain was moderate and until the last ½ mile, I never really felt it was particularly steep. The last bit was a good challenge, between scrambling over rocks, the soft sand, and numerous agaves it made up a little for what I felt was an easy walk up.
It's always cool to meet other challengers on the trail, and I encountered 3 different groups since I didn't start out until 2 pm, I passed everyone on their way back in. I thoroughly anticipated having to do some of my return trip in the dark, but I finished with plenty of daylight left. The views at the summit were awesome (check out my photo album)
This was #8 on my list and it was a Bonus hike, I wasn't really planning on it Friday as the trailhead can be a 3-4 hour drive from my house depending on traffic, however, the planets aligned, I made it to the trailhead in 3h 15m drive time (almost the same as my total moving time on the hike!). The upside? I was able to meet my daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter for dinner before heading back home. All-in-all I racked up about 6 ½ hrs total driving by the time I got home, for a 7.2-mile hike LOL.
