6 AM start Encountered ice on first 1/10 mile on trail but only small patches less than 30′ until junction to Mount Lawlor. After Lawlor, ice patches get longer up to 300′, and you must have careful footing because the trail traverses steep slopes. The final downhill before the saddle at the Strawberry Peak sign is entirely ice. The scramble itself only has small ice patches in the first 1/4 mile but they become longer the higher you get, which 600′ runs near the summit. Microspikes are recommended, but we saw people without them. By the early afternoon, half the ice became slushy except north facing slopes, but the slush is likely to refreeze overnight.

Looks real nice up there! How were the conditions hiking in some snow?
