Mount San Jacinto was the final summit for me and my brother to conquer the six pack of peak challenge in six weeks. We went with two other friends this time and shared a summit tradition with them–eat a snickers when you get to the top! At one point on our backpacking trip a few weeks back, my brother had fumbled his words and said “summer snickets” instead of “summit snickers” and it just kind of stuck. Mount San Jacinto is my brother's favorite mountain of the traditional six peaks, which is why we saved it for last, and it was truly beautiful. As we hit the golden hour on our way back down the mountain, the setting sun lit up ferns and pines and oaks with a warm glow. It was the prettiest hike yet, and the final hike of the challenge, but it won't be the last. Cheers to my fellow Finishers!
