February 19th we started our way up to summit Bear Mountain in Salisbury, CT via the Lion’s Head Trail up to the Appalachian Trail. This was my Fourth Summit of Bear Mountain for the Six Pack of Peaks: New England Challenge and Second Peak for 2022.

It was a beautiful day having blue skies, sunshine, high clouds and darker clouds off to the west. It was chilly at points and had some snow flurries. Trail was clear at lower elevations but as we got to higher elevations the trails were ice covered from previous thaw. Definitely recommend good traction such as micro spikes for the ice covered trails. We used spikes for this hike. As we reached summit darker clouds arrived and we got caught in snow flurries and later in the day two good snow squalls.

Overcast at the summit with snow falling, increased winds limited our views of close peaks and the town below. Was not at the summit long because of the conditions we were in, took some pictures and then heading back to the Trailhead.

It was beautiful hiking with snow flurries, and a couple good squalls and at higher elevations there was snow on the trees and a couple inches on the trail making for a beautiful hike. Definitely a winter wonderland.

Definitely recommend this hike to others and worth the trip. Definitely be prepared.
