My friend Emily and I started the hike after 6pm at the West Village parking area and we got to the summit just as the sun was setting in the distance. It was beautiful and amazing! We wore our microspikes on a couple of the snow crossings up higher on the mountain but could easily be done without them, actually on the way back down we did not put them on to cross the same snowfields. We are loving these late afternoon, evening, night hikes; no bugs, no people, much cooler temps. We plan on doing the same plan for South Sister soon.

Beautiful photos! Did you take the trail that parallels the Summit Lift or go straight up from Pine Martin?
Thank You! We were over by the Summit lift, topped out and had to go a short distance to the actual summit. A young guy reached the summit when we did carrying skies and he skied down some of the snow fields. The temps were perfect in the late evening! Looking forward to our next hike.
Summited Mount Bachelor this morning, starting at 6am. It was a little warmer than I prefer, but not as bad as I feared it would be (it’s currently 101f here in Bend as I type this). Headed back this Saturday leading a group hike with the Bend Hiking Meetup.
Did you cowboy camp?
Nice! Glad you got on Bachelor. This heat is awful! Makes it very difficult to get outside and be active.
We did not cowboy camp, my friend Emily and I both live in Bend so we just went home.
Try and have fun on Saturday, the forecast looks ridiculous!! You guys should start at night.
Sadly, I decided to cancel Saturday due to the heat. We will try to do another group hike when I get back from New England… and in cooler weather.
Oh bummer! That’s probably a good idea though. Are you from New England? I grew up in New York and learned about rock climbing, hiking, backpacking in upstate NY and New Hampshire.
