There wasn't a cloud in they sky and I knew it was going to be a beautiful 70 degree weather day so I had to finish out my six peaks on a gorgeous day. The first few miles were a bit deceiving since I got a little warm up in and then it was a straight descent down for a few miles. You know what that means: a steep hill awaits, which we all know is THE SHORTCUT. The shortcut is at a steep 22 degree incline rising 1400ft in just 1.3 miles. I was determined to do it as quickly as possible (34 minutes to be exact) but it had me wondering if my legs would hold me up. Once at the top you get a beautiful scenic route on the blue ridge trail while on a very mild incline. At times I would run just because nothing else on the trail could even compare to the the shortcut. I had my m&ms and muddy buddies to give me that sugar rush and ran down the hills and through jackass trail and jumped into the creek to give my feet a nice refreshing cool down before punishing them by going back up the climb through Poverty Flat. Closer to the end once on corral trail I switched into my chacos to give my toes a breather and lost my blue compression sock with a lightning bolt, RIP sock hope another fellow hiker spots it! Overall I feel great for having accomplish it, broken and limping because I did Rose Peak just yesterday but happy nonetheless!
