This is my last peak to complete the 2021 San Diego 6POP. I wanted to avoid any crowds so I went on a Thursday. I parked in the lot closest to the trailhead and there was only one other car. There are bathrooms here. I started my hike at 8am from Lake Poway. There’s a couple of port-o-potties about a half mile in, and then another set about a quarter mile later. Then the climb begins. It’s a nice mix of dirt road, a doubletrack trail, and rock steps that seem to never end. But when they do it’s a nice trail up to Potato Chip rock and the summit. I had the Rock and the summit to myself. I heard there are 4 survey markers atop 4 boulders at the summit but was unsuccessful in reaching them. Hike back down was much faster. There were plenty of people were making their way up the mountain. Total hike time was just under 3hrs., 7.6 miles hiked, drank under 1L of water (I’m sure you would need more on hotter days). Happy trails!
