Having hiked Mt. Wilson in the SoCal Six-Pack Challenge five times including this year's hike, I was eager to find out about this other Wilson which promised half the mileage of the SoCal counterpart. I was not disappointed. This hike was done in the afternoon and the mileage while half that of the SoCal Wilson was not to be sneezed at.  The views were excellent. The hike itself had cover and shade  – like Chantry Flats to the SoCal Wilson. If North Wilson Trail was the Chantry Flats-Winter Creek equivalent for this Wilson Mountain, then the main Wilson Mountain Trail from Midgeley Bridge would probably be this Wilson's counterpart to the Sierra Madre Trail for the SoCal Wilson. Must explore that in the future. If the SoCal Wilson had a “First Water” this one had a “First Bench”.  From First Bench to the summit – more accurately the summit plateau it was a about a little over a mile. Like the SoCal Wilson, Arizona's Wilson's summit is more accurately a summit plateau, wide and anticlimactic. The absence of buildings though was the stark difference  between this Wilson and the SoCal Wilson. In any case, due to lack of time, I decided to check out the Sedona Overlook as recommended in the write up and I was not disappointed. The views of red rock country in Sedona were excellent with the Midgeley Bridge in the distant center of it all.  If I had more time I would have gone to the other overlook but due to having done this as an afternoon hike I decided to head back instead of checking out the other overlook. Maybe some other time.  This Wilson may be only half the work of the other Wilson but it still packs a punch.
