The trail head is at the end of Volcan Mountian Rd., which looks like a private road. Parking for vehicles is on the Farmer Rd., parking on the roads shoulder. Th e trail head is nicely done with portable bathrooms and a sitting area and some large art sculptures.

The hike is along a fire road, the views were beautiful all the way up- and its pretty much up, up, up!

There is the remnants of an old lookout and the first site considered for Palomar Observatory.

The views were lovely, saw deer and rabbits. The air was cool crisp fall day, perfect hiking weather.
