Under bluebird skies, with periodic winds and temperatures in the 40s, conditions were prime for one of my favorite hikes in Tucson. With rain earlier in the week and more forecasted for tomorrow, plenty of my fellow hikers were taking advantage of the weather window. Reaching the top, familiar, spectacular views were revealed, including the snow-capped Santa Catalinas and Pinalenos, as well as a plethora of distant peaks in all directions.
The Sweetwater Trail was selected as an alternative to the King Canyon Trail. It’s slightly longer and has a little more elevation gain, but I believe the views are more impressive, and access from Tucson is easier. The trail is well-maintained, and there were no issues.
