I was excited to check off my first peak for the Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge. Since Wasson was the closest to home, I figured that was the best place to start.
My friend and I parked in the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum parking lot and walked a short walk up the street to where the King Canyon trailhead parking lot was under construction. Even though it had been a cold morning, we were surprisingly warm, almost too warm, when we started the uphill journey near 1:00 in the afternoon. The way back down was more comfortable body-temp-wise.
Although it was a thigh-burner, the views at the top were well worth it. Our timing was great for gorgeous shadows zig-zagging across the mountains, a warm glow from the setting sun, and the bright moonrise as we descended back to our car.
One down, five to go!
