Snow covered the entire way – snow shoes not needed, but microspikes were needed. Another solo hike for me, passed two other solo hikers, a family, and a couple on the way up. Two solo hikers and a trail runner on the way down. As long as you're prepared, winter hikes are my favorite – no bugs and great views!

  1. I’m impressed, Topher! I hiked this in dry conditions and there’s a lot of scrambly bits. Kudos to you for doing it in the snow!

  2. With the right gear, I find that winter hiking can be more enjoyable – no bugs and less traffic on the more popular hikes. Welch-Dickey is an enjoyable loop and has some really nice views of the surrounding White Mountains.
