I really had no idea what to expect as this was my first hike over 10 miles and my first with elevation gain of more than 3000ft.
The conditions were perfect. We started out at 6am in cool and foggy conditions. The views from the trail going through the Creek/canyon to Sturtevant Camp were beautiful. I had no idea all those cabins existed out here.
Getting from the camp to the summit was the hardest part for me. Tons of switchbacks. LOTS of elevation gain. But totally worth it at the top.
After a break and a Diet Coke at the Cosmos cafe, we headed back down the opposite side. “Easier” mentally but much harder physically pounding downhill.
My gps clocked me in at 14.7 miles with 5100ft of elevation gain. Definitely feeling accomplished and excited for the next 5.

Congratulations! Mount Wilson is a tough, long hike. It’s a good “readiness test” for the other peaks in the challenge.
