A stunning day with breathtaking views. This is a gorgeous hike with ever changing scenery and ecosystems. As you start, the trail winds its way up into a canyon. A well worn path with lush greenery and meandering ground scrubs in bloom. As you reach the end of the canyon you start your first of many ascents. Rocky trails abound and careful footing is key as you head up the switchbacks. Once you summit the first ridge, your in a grassland oasis. Open plains of high desert and gorgeous views of oak creek and the San Francisco peaks make this ridge a beautiful place to catch your breath before the next ascent. Watch for the signs to make the correct turns as the views can be distracting. Climbing to your final destination at the top of Wilson is filled with stunning views, winding paths, and many switchbacks languidly snaking their way up to the final summit. As you make this final ascent, the grassland plains become a pine forest filled with the scents of spring. One final sign and turn has you walking a ways to reach the edge of Mount Wilson where you’re rewarded with jaw dropping views of the red rocks of Sedona. Bring some lunch and rest a bit, the views are worth it!
